Carriage Cushion Cover
The design of this cushion cover was probably based on the fashionable 17th century Bargello flame pattern. In Sweden, this dazzling design is referred to as the "lightning pattern", is found on numerous weavings from Skåne. Rölakan, a double interlocked tapestry technique, has been in use since pre-historic times around the globe. The term rölakan is attributed to rygglakan meaning "back cover," the tapestry that hung on the wall of the dwelling to protect the person's back from chilling winter drafts. Throughout Sweden, rölakan applies to not only these woven hangings but to any textile woven in this manner.
