Ceremonial panel
It is difficult to assign this cloth to a specific Kuba group. The Bushoong women are best known for producing a cloth covered with thick plush like this surface, and the two more complex linear designs in the bottom row appear in Bushoong patterns. But this particular composition, divided by thick angular undulating lines and plain or decorated paths, is not known among the Bushoong. It occurs among the Shoowa, and it is favored among the northern Kuba groups such as the small ethnic clusters along the Sankuru River east of the Shoowa and the Ndengese people north of the river. Their plush work is not as dense as on this cloth or on Shoowa and Bushoong textiles.
